City Build is a realistic simulation of designing and building a city from scratch.

Program outline

City Build reflects the true challenges of architects and town planners the world over. The aim of this team building event is for the group to construct a giant model city that relies on creativity but also strong planning and discipline within the design and build teams. This is also a great opportunity for everyone in a team to collaborate, demonstrating that teams within teams pull together towards one common goal.

How It Works

Teams are given sections of a model city to build, one each of 4 zones – industrial, residential, leisure and business. The teams collaborate to develop a plan for the city ensuring there is uniformity of design across the zones and that roads, rivers, etc. flow coherently with the other teams’ sections next to theirs and in the city as a whole. Using a wide ranging materials, they build an imaginative and creative city that is functional and aesthetically pleasing. When the time is up, teams join the sections of the city together and celebrate their success in working towards a common goal.

Learning and development outcomes

In the City Build challenge, teams work to develop a common vision and a shared strategy which they put into place applying creativity and excellent project management skills. Planning and strategy through effective cross team communication and collaboration are essential to ensure the zones of the city interconnect and flow. Resource and time management are also essential to completing the project on time.
